Wimbledon Hopes Fade for Zverev

Surgery Required for Torn Ligaments

Three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios in the final 46 63 64 76 73 to win the gentlemens singles tennis title at the Wimbledon.

However, the news was not all good at Wimbledon, as world No. 3 Alexander Zverev was forced to retire from his semi-final match against Rafael Nadal due to a torn ligament in his right ankle.

Zverev, who was bidding to reach his first Wimbledon final, had surgery on Tuesday and is expected to be out for several months.

The injury is a major blow to Zverev, who was one of the favorites to win the Wimbledon title this year. He had won four titles this season, including the Madrid Open and the Italian Open.

Zverev's injury also casts doubt on his participation in the upcoming US Open, which is scheduled to begin on August 29.
